Although the fashion world seems to be more trivial than ever before after the recent events, you still need to get dressed every morning. So, while we all think we will equip ourselves in 2017 and beyond, let’s stock this year. Here’s a collection of important reforms, the 2016 trend and the definition of labels, a color that everyone seems to have in his wardrobe.
The Jacket of the Year
If you’re like most people, it’s quite possible that you cover your back with a smooth short jacket. Military style silhouettes have become essential items in every wardrobe, reaching critical mass in 2016. It is so popular that, in fact, Google is starting a list of male-dominated projects. And there are good reasons: versatile style can be used with a cashmere sweater and a shirt as easy to add your favorite hoodies and Slim jeans. From the oversized version of the iteration by the αVetements Standard Edition and other brands of industry and the release of the most exciting label quilting embroidery mark, 2016 is definitely this year’s bomber.
The Russian Sportswear Revolution
Designer Gosha Rubchinskiy made waves for mixing youthful skate culture with references to growing up in the Eastern Bloc. His Cyrillic-heavy graphics rendered on hoodies, tees, and sweatpants became the most unlikely uniform for kids used to lining up for red box-logo hoodies. Under the wing of Comme Des Garçons’ Adrian Joffe, Rubchinskiy took his fledgling label all the way to menswear’s most prominent tradeshow, Pitti Uomo, where he was a featured designer along with the legendary Raf Simons—a guy who also made his name through mixing clothing with subculture.
The Brand Whose Name Is Literally “Clothes”
Meanwhile, Georgian-born designer Demna Gvasalia ushered in a new era for extremely oversized sportswear and exaggerated silhouettes with his label Vetements. The name is simply French for “clothes,” but the collections are anything but simple. Shredding Levi’s 501 jeans, Champion hoodies, and The North Face parkas and remaking them into wabi-sabi, near-art pieces, the expensive label became one of the year’s most in-demand brands. This is, after all, the “design collective” that sold people an extremely expensive tee with a DHL graphic on it, and debuted a collection made up entirely of collaborations with everyone from Juicy Couture to Brioni, Levi’s, and Schott.
Gvasalia’s buzz got him on the radar of luxury conglomerate LVMH, which installed him as Alexander Wang’s replacement at fashion house Balenciaga, where his trademark anti-fit silhouettes have gone onto distort double-breasted suits and trucker jackets. (There’s also the unaffiliated copycat brand called Vetememes.) But who actually wears this stuff? Mostly fashion-hungry men and women who work at gigs with super lax dress codes, and probably spend more time in a first-class pod than at home. It’s sort of become the de facto uniform of monied jetsetters—and that includes Celine Dion, who in a meta twist, was spotted wearing Vetements’ Titanic-inspired oversized hoodie.
America’s Cozy Style Future
The whole “Americana” aesthetic is in flux. In a world where French terry John Elliott hoodies and Nike Tech Fleece sweats are status symbols as much as a pinstriped suit, brands that traffic in the classic American aesthetic of suits, ties, and chinos are having a rough go. Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and J. Crew are in the midst of figuring out how to dress a more casual consumer, and even re-launches of trad-inspired labels like Band of Outsiders have faltered.
In their place, slim sweatpants, minimal hoodies, and Champion knitwear are becoming the default gear for stylish men the world over. Toeing the line between gym-ready sportswear and effortless off-duty gear, these eminently comfortable menswear staples may have started out as what you change into in the locker room, but now they’re the standard to wear out in the streets.
The New Work Uniform: Casual Everyday
Workplace like JP Morgan Chase more and more casual, so refreshing denim pants and crewneck cashmere sweater to replace the power suit and Gordon Gaike three-piece.Technology giants like Mark Zuckerberg appear in t-shirts and jeans in large conferences and flagship activities tend to be more ubiquitous than custom-made mediocre, boot dresses that are used on the board.
No, more casual dress is not plausibly commissioned to wear messy, it just means that your women’s suits, wearing their new way with leather short jacket with pants, jacket and a pair of jeans, a low-key plaid shirt, box-fresh common items sports shoes. Just because the boss said it does not matter in the office to wear down does not mean that your style is bound to be affected.

This review is about Pactimo Apex Shorts .
Highs: High performance, lightweight, XC or trail shorts with the ideal amount of stretch and features
Lows: Waist adjusters are a bit too stetchy to hold tight, manic yellow color showed dirt stains (maybe that’s good?)
Buy if: Your riding is XC or trail-focused and you prefer to keep your kit tidy and focused
Denver, CO’s Pactimo is new to the mountain bike side of the cycling industry, having made their name in road gear — both custom and off-the-shelf. After riding the Apex shorts, it’s pretty obvious that that knowledge and expertise came in handy when forging into the high-end mountain bike apparel world.
The fit on the Apex shorts would definitely fall into the slim category. “It’s an enduro/XC fit,” says Pactimo’s retail brand manager Josh Cook. Even though pretty trim, Pactimo’s lightweight 4-way stretch fabric features “unhindered mobility and quick-drying breath-ability.” That seems to be a pretty spot-on description as the material is definitely on the lighter, and thinner, side of MTB baggies.
Every movement on or off the bike is met with reassuring give, with nary a hint of binding or restriction. The material is also lightweight, making it a definite go-to piece when the temperatures hit the larger numbers of the thermometer. The thin material looks to be a standout in the hot summer months, while layering underneath (shorts plus tights in the winter, for example) could likely pose some issues.
Breathability is good, remaining comfortable on long, hot climbs yet not too cool or airy when bombing down. Durability so far has been spot on, shrugging off a couple of minor crashes, including one that sent me in for stitches.
It’s clear that the Pactimo team put some thought into the Apex’s layout. The pockets are close to perfect, with two front hand pockets, one rear zipped pocket, and a right thigh zipped pocket big enough for an iPhone 6. The right thigh pocket is offset, so when in the saddle, and while pedaling, your cargo stays put just as it should.
The shorts have a noticeable contour to their shape. The leg openings are higher in the rear for ease of pedaling, as is the rear of the shorts to prevent the infamous plumber’s crack phenomenon that shows up on lesser shorts.
The waist closure, a potential pet peeve of mine, consists of two offset snaps, which thankfully fall on the happy side of my personal waistband battle.
Speaking of the waistband, the two size adjustments are located on the inside, which does keep the appearance clean, but makes dialing in the fit while wearing the shorts a tad cumbersome. The stretch of the actual adjusters made the fit a bit tricky to get right. Static, non-stretchable adjustments would be better in my opinion.
There is certainly nothing new about a cardigan. A cardigan is quite literally one of the DNA building blocks of any well-appointed wardrobe, and most followers of fashion will have several styles and fabrications in her wardrobe.
But for all the versatility of the humble long boyfriend cardigan, it can also become a bit of a stumbling block when it comes to styling. The generous proportions and slouchy appeal that make this piece so popular can also unintentionally give off a rather, shall we say, unpolished look. But fashionistas should put their minds at rest; the following styling tips are not only an easy reference guide – they also happen to look good on a multitude of different body types.
#1 Fabric Matters, So Choose Wisely
Before we get into the nitty gritty of styling, it is imperative to take a minute to talk about fabric quality. While it may be tempting to go in for that ultra-discounted knockoff version of the cashmere boyfriend cardigan you have been coveting, knitwear is generally an area where you will want to stick to natural fabrications and blends.
Acrylics tend to pull while knitwear with too much nylon or viscose often puckers and fades after just one wash. Natural fabrics, while sometimes more maintenance-intensive, tend to hold shape and colour better and look better with age. Modern technology has also afforded us high-tech blends that not only breathe, but also hold their shape better than in days gone by. Look for wool blends (at least 40-50% wool), cotton, silk, and modal blends for best results.
#2 The Obvious Choice: Worn With Jeans
Yes, it is indeed an obvious choice, albeit one that stands the test of time. Worn with a pair of skinny jeans and a fitted tank underneath, the oversized and slouchy qualities of the long boyfriend cardigan are mitigated by the more body-conscious under-layer. This effect can be as casual or as dressed as you like it to be; the secret is in the footwear. A pair of colourful sneakers and a cross-body bag for day give you street cred, while a pair of killer stilettos and long pair of chandelier earrings will add a feminine touch that will take you right through to your evening dinner date.
#3 The Long Over Short Effect
The lyrics to the ‘90s hit by Cake that recalled wanting a girl with a short skirt and a long jacket was not only a catchy tune, but also very good advice indeed. Pairing a long boyfriend cardigan over a short skirt or fitted minidress that is just a hint longer than the cardigan is an excellent way to dress-down a body-con silhouette for day and add just the right amount of slouch.
Much like with a form-fitting pair of skinny jeans and tank, a loosely-fitted long cardigan provides not only protection from the cold, it creates depth to a look with layering. A dress that felt just a little too downtown for a trip to the mall suddenly feels right for day. Pair this look with flats to keep it from looking too over-styled.
#4 Oh Waist-Defining Belt, How I Love Thee
There is no greater friend to a deconstructed, borrowed-from-the-boys look than a waist-defining belt. Wear your boyfriend cardigan slightly open and belted at the waist. Not only does this create a layered effect that adds depth and interest to your look, the cinched waist hints the lines of your body underneath, lending an air of femininity to the menswear-inspired piece. Pair this with a pair of printed skinny ankle pants, an A-line mini, or even a pair of sharply tailored trousers for optimum effect.
Perhaps the most important item to remember when you are borrowing from the boys and employing the use of a long boyfriend cardigan into your look is to play the masculine shapes of the cardigan against something softer and more feminine to create balance. Whether this means layering your cardigan over an über-feminine lace dress or simply selecting a cardigan in a soft pastel shade or a luxurious angora or cashmere fabrication, it is that balance of the masculine and the feminine that gives the long cardigan its streetwise yet sophisticated appeal.
